S.F., U.S. home prices in free fall: "All 20 metropolitan regions tracked by the index showed price declines compared with January 2008, while 13 of them clocked record annual declines. Combined, the 20 regions had a one-year plunge of 19 percent in home values and a one-month decline of 2.8 percent from December to January.

The three worst-performing regions were Phoenix, down 35 percent compared with a year ago; Las Vegas, down 32.5 percent; and San Francisco, down 32.4 percent."
